Supporting more than $1.5 billion of investment within the Whitsundays.

Stone Island's development plans promise a transformative impact on the Whitsunday Region, offering a stimulus to the economy amidst the pandemic's harsh blows to tourism. The proposed aerial tramway project alone, valued at $55 million, is poised to invigorate local economies over its 18 month construction period, creating over 70 jobs in its initial phase.

With additional future stages, the project anticipates generating 250-300 jobs per phase, alongside a steady influx of 30-50 permanent and casual positions for the resort's operational arm. 10 stages are currently of State gazetted developable land, encompassing a 10-15 year life span for the project, subject to market demands and economic environment.

Stone Island's mandate extends beyond the aerial tramway construction, with over $10.2 million+ injected into the local economy through direct construction wages and ancillary costs. As the project unfolds, it aims to draw in over $142 million in additional visitor expenditure by 2035/36, buoyed by an anticipated 25% increase in average length of stay.

Looking ahead, the island's development trajectory hints at grander prospects, with a projected investment exceeding $1.5 billion over its lifespan. This vision encompasses not only the construction of 500 accommodation dwellings and essential infrastructure for 3,000 guests but also the nurturing of a sustainable, thriving ecosystem within the Whitsundays.
