WHITSUNDAY CABLE CAR, AN AUSSIE-FIRST.
Introducing Australia’s first overwater cable carS.
An Australian-first, the Whitsunday Cable Car provides an unparalleled, accessible experience for all visitors. Suspended over the beautiful blue waters of the Whitsundays, this cable car will transport you directly from the mainland to Stone Island, without ever touching the water.
The Whitsunday Cable Car’s comfortable and picturesque journey turns Stone Island into the most uniquely accessible island in the Whitsundays.
This proposed project has been carefully designed and will stimulate the local tourism industry and boost the economy of the Bowen and Whitsunday regions. Secluded beaches, remote islands, and iconic local produce are the hallmark of the Whitsunday region and have untapped potential to draw visitors from far and wide to delight in this hidden gem. Sustainability is key and the cable car infrastructure has been designed to have the lowest possible environmental impact on the surrounding areas.
The Stone Island visitor transportation infrastructure represents a high-tech overwater ‘Electronic Vehicle’ (EV) incorporating a small environmental footprint. When comparing the benefits of an overwater Electronic Vehicle with traditional Marine Transport, the advantages are clear and the impact minimal.
Reduced Carbon Emissions
Electronic vehicles are typically powered by electricity. This significantly reduces reliance on fossil fuels, thereby lowering carbon emissions, fostering cleaner air, and helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Minimal Water Pollution
Unlike vessels propelled by combustion engines, the overwater Cable Car (EV) will produce no direct emissions or pollutants that could harm marine ecosystems. This absence of emissions helps preserve water quality, minimising the risks of harmful algal blooms, oil spills, and other forms of pollution.
Noise Reduction
EVs operate quietly compared to traditional marine transportation, which can disturb sensitive marine life such as whales and dolphins with their engine noise. By minimising noise pollution, this modern form of electric transportation contributes to preserving the acoustic environment of marine ecosystems and reducing stress on aquatic sea life.
These few examples are clear, incorporating and upgrading to this form of people-moving infrastructure offers numerous environmental advantages over the outdated traditional marine transportation methods.
